| BA PhD Nicola's research experience covers 16 years at Transport Research Laboratory, 10 years at the University of Surrey and time as senior consultant at MVA. Nicola's research interests have focused on the causes and consequences of road traffic collisions and other unintentional injuries and the evaluation of interventions to reduce injuries. She is particularly interested in the relationship between deprivation and road safety. She is a member of the Miskin group - a collaboration of leading researchers in the fields of injury prevention http://www.miskin-group.org.uk/. Nicola is also a member of Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety http://www.pacts.org.uk/ and is part of their Road User Behaviour Working Party and provides advice on their reports. She was a contributing author for the WHO report on child and adolescent road traffic injury (2008) and on publications by the European Occupational Safety and Health Executive on work related road risk. In 2008 she was an expert witness for the House of Commons Transport Select Committee on the topic of road safety in the wider context. Nicola's research has been funded by a range of clients including the Department for Transport, Department of Health, Home Office, local authorities, professional organisations such as ADEPT, consultancies and charities. |

I am interested in understanding and modelling the accessibility of public transport systems. I am also interested in the resilience of infrastructure including transport and energy systems. As a member of UCL Accessibility Research Group, I have been conducting a variety of research to understand people's interaction with outdoor built environments. I am interested in how people perceive environments and engineering solutions to improve such perception. My recent research interest includes the resilience of infrastructure including transport systems. |

Benjamin Heydecker’s research lies in developing mathematical and statistical analyses in transport studies. He has pursued this along three broad themes within the field of transport studies: o Transport safety, including the analysis and interpretation of road accident data, o Traffic management and control, including real-time information and control systems, and o Transport planning methods, including dynamic transport modelling. The interrelationships between these themes, and between each of them and methodologies for estimation, design and management are of special interest to him. He is an associate editor of the international journals Transportation Science and Transportation Research (Part B), and also serves on the editorial board of Networks and Spatial Economics and Transportmetrica. He is a fellow of the Institution of Mathematics and its Applications and of the Royal Statistical Society. |

| BA Dphil Welcome to my departmental webpage. I am currently involved in three areas of research. First, I am working on the normative theory of social exclusion and inequality, and how social policy, particularly transport policy, can be used to promote inclusion and equality. Secondly, I work on the theory of rational decision. Thirdly, I am interested in various aspects of cost-benefit analysis, from the elicitation of preferences to the normative justification of cost-benefit analysis, with special attention to issues of altruism and justice. My research interests lie in the realm of sustainable transport systems and travel behaviour. Previous research has focused on the development of decision support tools for local authorities, particularly computer models and tools for analysing the impacts of transport, land-use and energy policies, and the assessment of relationships between transport, land-use, economic development and the environment. More recent research has focused on the social dimensions of sustainability, in particular on the links between social exclusion and transport provision with an emphasis on accessibility modelling and development of accessibility indicators. I have a strong interest in Geographical Information Systems for Transport (GIS-T). Consultancy clients include the University of Westminster, Transport for London, and BT. |
